Pietracamela Teramo Abruzzo / Italia
Pietracamela a village full of wonders.
Pietracamela is a small village of central Italy where my grandparents were born. It is situated in the province of Teramo (30km) at an altitude of 1,005 metres from sea level and on the North East of the Gran Sasso D'Italia (which is the highest mountain in the Abruzzo region). It is only 55 km from the Adriatic Sea and 160 km from Rome. Pietracamela is a popular summer holiday resort and winter sports centre. Thanks to the nearby and extensive Prati Di Tivo where hotels and private chalets have sprung up in the last decade or so. Pietracamela has a population of about 40-50 people.

The province of Teramo
On Teramo's coat of arms there are two faces sticking their tongues out at each other, and into the tongues are stuck the points of a compass. Beneath is written "A lo parlare agge mensura". Translation is "watch what you say". The relevance of the motto is confirmed by the old Teramo which is, "the smack of a kiss bestowed at the Cona can be heard under the arches".
